It is extremely important to dry carpets and rugs as soon as you possibly can. Immediate action can prevent mildew, grayish-white mold that stains and rots fabrics. Pull up waterlogged rugs immediately to prevent further damage to the floor. If possible, put dry small rugs outdoors in sunlight. To get air and heat to the carpets, open the windows if weather permits, or use household electric fans. Do not try to vacuum, sweep, or shampoo carpets until they are completely dry. Sweep or Vacuum: After the carpet is dry, thoroughly vacuum, or sweep it, to remove any dirt and debris. The slower you move the vacuum, the more dirt it catches. Clean off as much dirt and sediment as possible before shampooing.

If there is standing water in your home, we highly recommend that you wear rubber boots and gloves if for some reason you have to walk through the water. After you have turned off or stopped the source of flooding the second thing you immediately need to do is make sure that all electricity is turned off at the breaker box, and make sure all electrical appliances or extension cords are placed safely above the wet ground. Look out for sharp or broken objects on the floor, and any objects that you could trip over to ensure the structural safety of your home. Areas that have been exposed to sewage should be thoroughly washed down with a solution of household bleach and water whether wet or not. We recommend that you use 25% bleach to water solution. If in doubt, throw it out.

To help you prepare for the possibility of a Flood, read this list of tips to recover after a flood. Always have a mop and plenty of rag towels around, keep any important documents high up in air tight containers. Before beginning any serious flood damage repair, make sure the power is off. Once you have turned off the electricity, it is important to get all standing water out as fast as possible. Use Buckets, towels, mops, shovels, or anything the situation demands to get as much water off of the carpet, walls, and floors as possible. Dealing with this water immediately could save you a great amount of money in Flood damage restoration costs. Anything destroyed by water must be thrown out to prevent future damage. On the other hand, all undamaged household items should be removed as well. Renting a hauling truck or trailer and putting your cherished items in a dry, safe place, can save more time and money.
